Lie Nielsen Froe

A Froe is a very useful wood-splitting tool made up of a blade and a handle, which is made from a hard maple. Specifically, the Lie-Nielsen Froe has a unique attachment point between the blade and the handle, where the blade is welded to a cylindrical ferule. The Lie-Nielsen Froes comes in two sizes, 8 inches and 12 inches, and are named the Basketmaker's Froe and the Langsner Froe, respectively. The Langsner Froe was a collaboration between Lie-Nielsen and Drew Langsner, an expert on splitting green wood, which is the best type of wood to use with these Froes. The starting size of your wood determines the size of Froe you need and you should use the Basketmaker's Foe with small pieces and the Langsner Froe with bigger pieces.
