Congratulations to Sidney Dew, retiring after 38 years

Sidney Dew

After working at Highland Woodworking since 1985, Sidney retired on Jan. 3, 2024.

Sidney has always been known for being amazingly personable with our customers. He may forget your name but he often remembers where you live and what you do for a living. He has gone way beyond normal expectations in helping customers with a project challenge or problem. If we do not have what they need, he likes to help them find where they can obtain it. He has been known to encourage a new woodworker or faithful customer by purchasing an item for them out of his own pocket.

Sidney is known far and wide for his finishing and refinishing expertise, and has given sage guidance to amateurs and professionals alike. He has also been willing to be up front and honest with customers if a project is not achievable. Practically every day someone comes in or calls asking for Sidney. We have long-time customers from all over the country who will tell you that Sidney is a major reason for their loyalty to Highland Woodworking.

As a co-worker, the word “friend" does not do justice to describing him. He is quick to give what he calls "grandmotherly" advice to us concerning our health and safety. He consistently speaks up to help increase other people’s self-esteem. His quirky sense of humor helps make the work day more enjoyable.

For decades, Sidney Dew has embodied the heart and soul of Highland Woodworking. His broad smile and clever wit will be missed by customers and co-workers alike. He's always been ready to listen and offer suggestions from his many years of experience. He would belong in the Woodworker’s Hall of Fame if one existed!

If you would like to send greetings to Sidney, we're sure he would be glad to hear from you.
